Clearly, the trend toward ebooks and ebook readers is going to accelerate. I love to read and find quite attractive the fact that new best-sellers are generally available as an ebook at about $10 versus the hardback at about $27-$29. Even if the hardback is discounted 40%, the ebook version comes out cheaper in cost. And, with the ebook readers, you have various options for borrowing library ebooks.

Furthermore, the digital electronic books' marketplace is much more open to authors publishing their own works, as compared to the current primary hard-back/soft-back publishers route requiring significant investment by a publisher to bring a new book to market.

I am also very interested in seeing if ebooks take off and I think to some extent that already have taken the tech help market by storm. But as to a replacement for real books I hope this never actually happens as I to like to be able to feel and smell the pages of a book between my hands, though the kindle does very well at imitating a real book in the end that is all it can do just an imitation.

I'll be interested to see if eBooks ever really take off. I heard an NPR story a while back (which I am currently not able to pin point at the moment) in which a guest proclaimed that there was no replacement for the feel, smell, page turning quality of books. Kindle's "eDisplay" which allows for a more book like, non-backlit display is a step in the right direction but I'm still skeptical of the possible success of eBooks. And I am definitely very wary of the environmental impact these devices would discharge.
